British professional boxer Georgia O’Connor has died at the age of 25, her promotional team BOXXER announced on Thursday.
“We are heartbroken by the passing of Georgia O’Connor,” the company shared in a statement on X (formerly Twitter). “A true warrior inside and outside the ring, the boxing world has lost a gifted, brave, and determined young woman far too soon.”
O’Connor’s death comes just months after she publicly revealed her battle with cancer.
“For 17 weeks since the start of October, I’ve been in constant pain, traveling back and forth between Durham and Newcastle’s RVI A&E, knowing deep down something was seriously wrong,” she wrote in a candid post. “I said from the beginning I thought it was cancer. I knew the risks. I have colitis and PSC—two diseases that significantly raise my cancer risk. They knew too. They always did.”
O’Connor, who hailed from Durham, did not disclose the specific type of cancer she had been diagnosed with.
In that same January Instagram post, she expressed deep frustration over the medical care she received.
“No doctor ordered the scans or blood tests I begged for while crying on the floor in pain. Instead, they dismissed me,” she wrote. “They gaslit me, told me it was nothing, and made me feel like I was overreacting. They refused to investigate. They REFUSED to listen.”
In February, she also revealed on Instagram that she had suffered a miscarriage.
“The last few months have been a rollercoaster,” she wrote. “I’ve been pregnant with a beautiful baby, lost the baby, and was then diagnosed with ‘incurable’ cancer. But I still feel on top of the world.”
Just last week, O’Connor shared a joyful update with her 40,000 Instagram followers: she had gotten married. Posting a photo holding her husband’s hand, she wrote: “09.05.2025. The day I married the love of my life.”
In an earlier post from February, she shared that her then-boyfriend had quit his job to be by her side during her cancer treatment. Read more…
